Designers Ming-Iung Chen and Wenke Zhang Introduce a Compact, Efficient RFID Device

Designers Ming-Iung Chen and Wenke Zhang have reimagined storage management with their innovative Fly Flapper RFID device, a compact, efficient solution that streamlines the process and enhances user experience.

The Fly Flapper RFID stands out from traditional RFID scanners with its unique properties. It can quickly scan up to 200 objects at a time from a distance, storing up to 55,000 scans. Even when the device runs out of battery, it automatically saves the scanned information. The device is small, light, and easy to hold, making it a convenient tool for storage management. It can also connect to mobile phones via Bluetooth, allowing for efficient transfer of scanned information.

Designers Ming-Iung Chen and Wenke Zhang drew inspiration from the need for a simpler, more efficient storage management system. They aimed to create a device that was compact, light, and easy to use, with good anti-fall and wear-resisting functions. The result was a design that no longer looks heavy and cumbersome, but rather sleek and modern.

The Fly Flapper RFID was developed in Shenzhen, starting in August 2017 and completed in March 2018. It was exhibited in the GOOD Design EXHIBITION 2018 in October and in Guangzhou Design Week in November 2018. The design process involved extensive research, including workshops with warehouse keepers to understand their needs and challenges. The designers also tested various sensor modules to ensure the device's speed, stability, and efficiency.

The Fly Flapper RFID device has been recognized for its innovative design, winning Silver in the A' Digital and Electronic Device Design Award in 2019. This prestigious award is given to designs that demonstrate outstanding expertise and innovation, showcasing a remarkable level of excellence and introducing positive feelings, amazement, and wonder.
